About Tackle Reading
Tackle Reading is one of the nation’s leading annual literacy events. We work closely with the National Football League to send current and alumni players to read books to students in underserved elementary schools around the country. The initiative partners with publishers, educational non-profits, and corporate supporters to donate books and supplies to students and teachers at selected schools.
Our History
Every March to celebrate National Reading Month, we team up with the National Football League, Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Random House Children’s Books, Creative Minds Publications, and others to spread the joy of reading. NFL teams, NFL Legends, and NFL Alumni donate their time to read and get children excited about literacy.
Our Founder
Tackle Reading was founded by author and educator Kathryn Starke, one of the nation’s leading literacy leaders. Starke has been an inner-city elementary school teacher, reading specialist, district literacy coach, and national literacy consultant. She is the founder of Creative Minds Publications and author of Tackle Reading and A Touchdown in Reading: An Educator’s Guide to Literacy Instruction. Books may be purchased at bulk rate.
